Pernilla's Something Swedish Feature

Are you ready to explore another great Etsy & Artfire shop? Pernilla's Something Swedish is different from any other shop I've featured so far.  This time you won't find handmade cards, clothes, or children's items. What you will find is delicious, yummy, mouthwatering looking fudge, candy and cookies!!

Please tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Pernilla but my nickname here in the U.S. is Pennie. I design and create Gourmet Chocolate and Candy, Jewelry and so much more! This has always been a huge passion of mine and I have been doing it all for as long as I can remember and could never live without it.

In the very beginning of 2006, I left my beautiful country Sweden and moved to the U.S. since my husband is American. I like it a lot here, but I really miss Sweden and almost everything that comes with it, especially the FOODS! ;)

I started my ArtFire  Shop in Dec of 2010, and it was a big hit for me! I truly Love what I do, and I make sure to stay true to myself in every step of the way. To see the Wonderful Feed back I get from people warms my heart compleatly and is the reason why I am doing what I do.

In My ArtFire Shop you will find something different. I make my Original Fudge without pouring in sugar and butter, and for me this is something really special, and it means a lot to me that I am able to offer this for everyone out there who thinks about what they eat. I started 3 new Gourmet Lines about three months ago, and they include; Sugar Free, No sugar added and soy free. There are even more lines coming up soon, but this is a start. It took a lot of work and I really did it with help from Wonderful Friends who can't eat cane sugar for many reasons. Any type of food allergy that makes a person not beeing able to eat something sweet, well, that is why I started these Gourmet Lines which I am very proud of.

My Gourmets are made with only the finest ingredients that I select from Sweden, Belgium, Germany, France and the USA. I LOVE Organic and All natural so Of Course I use these Ingredients as much as I possibly can! Using some of my family's old recipes and adding my own touch to them makes it tasty out of this world! :)

How and when did you become interested in your craft?
I can't really say when, because I don't remember not beeing interested in doing what i do.

What inspired you to open your shop?
I have almost always had my own business, and that it the way to go for me, so opening my shop online was something that I had been dreaming about for some time before I did it. My Husband is behind me all the way, and he has been the one inspiering me the most.

Where did your shop name come from?
Since I am Swedish and live here in the U.S. I thought that the perfect name for my shop would be
Pernilla's Something Swedish. Everything that I make is made by my Swedish hands.

Where/How did you learn your craft?
Having My Mother and My Grandmother as professional Cooks and Bakers, I was quick to follow in their foot steps.

Is there something that you do differently than other people in your craft?
Yes! :) I make my Gourmet Chocolates/Candy very differently from other people. I leave out the butter, oli and extra poured in sugar etc in my Fudges. Customers can Truly Indulge with My Goodies without getting a Sugar shock or get that bad feeling from eating sweets. All of My Chocolate/Candy are Truly Gourmet to the fullest!

What are 5 things that you could never do without in your craft?
* My Top 10 ingredients.
* My inspiration.
* My Husband.
* My Bead collection.
* My Passion for what I do.

What is your favorite item in your shop?
That is such a hard question to answer... But, i would have to say that right now I am in Love with My No Sugar Added Caramel BOMB Fudge! :)

What is the most exciting thing that has happened since you've started?
Well, many things has been very exciting to me since I started, but to tell a few of them I would have to say; Making it to the front page of ArtFire and Etsy more then 1 time each. Also to have customers coming back to me often, that to me is so exciting and wonderful!

What’s the best advice you’ve been given in regards to what you do?
To stay true to myself and to always be honest no matter what. That is who I am and would not change a thing.

Do you take custom orders? If so, how do they work?
Yes I do. I work with my customers all the way when they want something special or different made. Customers usually ask me if I can make them something different, maybe because of their allergies or they want to give someone their favorite gift etc. I am always open to custom orders, and all you have to do is ask. ;)

Besides crafting, what else do you do?  What are your other interests?
I use to own a Beautysalon for about 10 years in Sweden and have a huge passion for everything  including well being from the inside and out of the human body. My other great passion is animals. I had 2 horses in Sweden, cows and the greatest of all, Dogs. I still have dogs, 2 of them and a Holland lop Bunny.

Why do you do what you do?
Without doing what I do, I think I would be a  very sad person. This is my passion in life and to create brings out the best in me.

How do you make time to craft?
This is what I do full time, and Loving it!

What advice would you give someone just learning your craft?
My advice here would be to read about my shop and to see what I have in my Gourmets. To ask me questions whenever you have one, and to learn about my ingredients.

What advice would you give someone new to online selling?
My advice would be to always stay true to yourself. Belive in what you do even though it can take time for shoppers to see you and your work.

Are you hungry yet? Ready to go purchase some special Swedish goodies? You can find Pennie at her Artfire or Etsy shops as well as on her blog. Go check out her shops and discover for yourself all the wonderful array of goodies she offers! Whether you're wanting a treat for yourself or you're looking for a gift for someone special, Pernilla's Something Swedish is definitely the place to start! :)

Sneak Preview

A few months ago I was looking through one of my favorite booths at our local Antique Mall / Flea Market, and found this pretty eyelet fabric! It's a really nice, soft grey eyelet fabric with white embroidery on it. I immediately thought it would make great skirts, so I purchased it, and here are the skirts - One for Mama and on for Daughter. :)

Stitches and Scraps Feature and Giveaway! (US)

Are you ready to discover another talented artist? There are SO many great shops on Artfire and Etsy, and it's so fun not only to discover them myself, but also to share them with you. The shop I'd like to introduce you to today is Stitches and Scraps.

I ran across this shop a little while ago on Artfire, and I was impressed with Sammie's work. Her cards are just adorable! She specializes in Invitations, Cards, and other Paper Crafts, and now I'll let her tell you about herself.

Please tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a 5th grade Science teacher, mother, wife, and card maker.  I have three daughters: four year old twins and a two year old.  I started scrapbooking in high school and have carried it on since then.  I don’t have much time to craft while the girls are up, but after bedtime I get to relax and create.

How and when did you become interested in your craft?
I started making cards about a year ago.  They were quick, fun and I was able to use different papers, ribbons, and embellishments on each one.   They were like mini scrapbook pages but much faster.  My favorite part of the process is coordinating the papers, ribbons, stamps, and embellishments.  A scrapbook page took me days to design and I was stuck with the same colors for too long.  A card is much quicker, and I can move on to another design and color palette within a couple hours.

What inspired you to open your shop?
My favorite types of cards to create are invitations.  I only get to plan two birthday parties a year, so I had to find something else to do with all my other invitation ideas.  I decided to try selling them online.

What is your favorite item in your shop?
Sometimes that changes daily.  Right at the moment my favorite item are the duck pull toy shower invitations.  I just love that little duck!

What is the most exciting thing that has happened since you've started?
My shop had been open about 4 months and business hadn’t really picked up yet.  I had made some diaper bag themed invitations for my daughter’s 2nd birthday.  I listed them one morning and that same evening a customer contacted me wanting to order some.  She wanted 60!  This was my first large order.  She had some specific colors and patterns she wanted to match the rest of the décor.  It was my first really “custom” order, and I was thrilled.

Do you take custom orders? If so, how do they work?
Custom orders are my favorite!  If you want something designed to fit your theme just contact me and let me know what you have in mind.  It could be a totally new design or one based on something I’ve already made but with a few changes.  After you answer a few questions about the design and your budget, I’ll get a sample made for you to take a look at.  At that point we can make any changes you want.  Once you are happy with the design, I’ll set up a custom listing.  After payment is made, I’ll buy the materials and get the cards made.  I don’t charge any “design” fees and you don’t pay until you are happy with the sample card.  Some custom themes I’ve created included: Pizza chef, Fish, Puppet show, and Airplanes.  I look forward to doing many more.

What advice would you give someone new to online selling?
Don’t get bogged down in all the technical stuff.  When I first opened my shop I stressed out about keywords, SEO, picture lighting, tags…..  I spent so much time on the computer trying to get those things right I didn’t have much time to create.  Yes those things are important, but don’t take the fun out of your craft.  Read a few articles, take it slow, but take time to enjoy the craft that put you there in the first place.

Aren't they all just adorable! She is so creative in her work and so detailed! I've never really had the kind of creativity needed for card making, but I always love seeing what others can do! There's something so special about a handmade card!

Next time you're planning that special party and need invitations, or just want the perfect card to send to someone special, don't forget to pop on over to Stitches and Scraps and let her provide just the card you need! In fact, now would be a great time to go check out her shop either on Artfire or Etsy! Sammie has graciously offered my readers a 15% off coupon for either of her shops! Just use the code FAN15 to receive your discount! You can also find Stitches and Scraps on Facebook and Twitter.

And speaking of cards, how would you like a chance to win a set of these adorable mini Hedgehog note cards?! Every time I look at these little cards I have to smile! Wouldn't they be just perfect for cheering someone's day! :)

Really Reasonable Ribbon Review and Giveaway (WW)

I'm very excited to bring your another giveaway and to introduce you to a company you may not be familiar with: Really Reasonable Ribbon!

Until a few months ago, I had never heard of Really Reasonable Ribbon, but now I'm so glad I have! Their name alone gives you a pretty good idea of what this company sells - ribbon, trim, adhesives, hair clips, and more at very reasonable prices!

If you are a crafter, scrapbooker, or seamstress who loves to use ribbon and trim on her projects, then I want to invite you to check out this wonderful website! Although I haven't know about Reasonable Ribbon for very long, my sister and I have already ordered from them twice! :) I love the great price they have on their ric rac and hair bow barrettes, and my sister has had so much fun choosing color after color of gross grain ribbon for her newest craft projects!

A friend of my Grandma not only introduced us to this fun craft project - covering boxes, she is also the one who sent us over to Really Reasonable Ribbon. As you can see, these boxes take quite a bit of ribbon and buying it at JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby costs MUCH more than buying it from Reasonable Ribbon!

At Reasonable Ribbon, you can purchase 100 yard spools of solid gross grain ribbon for $10.39 - $22.99 depending on the width of the ribbon. Or if you don't need such a large quantity, you can get it in 5 yard segments for $0.90 - $1.95! And they have 53 choices of color!!!

Really Reasonable Ribbon also carries a great variety of fun specialty ribbon and trim! I don't have nearly enough room here to show all the choices! From flowers, to animals, to babies, hearts, patriotic, and birthday, you're sure to find just what you need for your projects! And don't forget the ric rac too!

If you need more ideas for what you can do with all of this wonderful ribbon, check out the Reasonable Ribbon blog where you'll find all kinds of craft projects, video tutorials, and sometimes exclusive coupons!

Really Reasonable Ribbon also has a Ribbon Club! Here's what they say about it:

"If you really love ribbon and would like to have a wonderful assortment of ribbons sent to you automatically each month, just join the Really Reasonable Ribbon Club!

Monthly ribbon club assortments are selected and pre-packed to reflect a specific theme, color, or holiday season. The assortments vary from month to month, but an average assortment has 5-8 different ribbon styles and consists of 10-15 yards of ribbon."

And now for the giveaway!! The wonderful people over at Really Reasonable Ribbon would like to give one of my readers their own package of ribbon! The picture above is the July assortment of ribbon and one of you is going to win it!

Buy it: If you just don't want to wait for this giveaway to be finished, you can sign up for the monthly ribbon club - $9.00 (US) or $11.50 (International) per month including shipping!

Win it: Complete the mandatory entry below and any additional entries you want to, and make sure you include your e-mail address!!

Mandatory Entry:
Visit Really Reasonable Ribbon, browse around, then come back here and tell me you are most excited about AND leave me your e-mail address so that I can contact you if you win.

Extra Entries (please leave a separate comment for each one and don't forget to leave me your e-mail address!):

This giveaway is open to anyone world wide. The giveaway will close on July 23rd, and the winner will be chosen by random.org and notified by e-mail. The winner has 48 hours to get back to me with their address or a new winner will be chosen.

Disclosure: I was sent the July ribbon assortment to review, but I was not paid to write this review. The opinions in this post are completely mine.
